If you want to learn about other cultures, joining LASO is one place to start. LASO stands for Latin American Student Organization. The goal of the club is to educate the Lycoming College community about different Latin American cultures and events all in efforts to bring the student body together. One example is the events held during Hispanic Heritage Month such as Hot Cheetos and Cheese Fundraiser and the Latin American Expo. The Latin American Expo showcases different Latin American countries and presents fun facts.
They hold other events in collaboration with different clubs and organizations on campus. Such as a fireside chat on intersectionality with GSA, MAG, BSU, and MSU on October 28th from 7-8pm. They will be collaborating with MSU to cover Cultural Appropriation vs Cultural Appreciation on October 29th. This year, for their annual “Dia de los Muertos” altar for Day of the Dead they will collaborate with MAG. LASO wants to not only showcase how Latin culture celebrates those who have passed but help MAG share how other cultures celebrate. The event will take place from October 31st to November 2nd and it will be called Day of the Dead Worldwide.
