Homecoming Paint Night

Homecoming Paint Night

Painting and design may not sound exciting, but it turns out to be a great way to relieve pent up stress when you give it a chance. On October 2nd, there was a paint and design event in the dining hall. Everyone received a canvas with a pre-drawn outline of Long Hall. The subject was a starry night version of Long Hall. At both ends of the tent, two very nice women showed each step for the right colors and correct positions to make this magical painting come through. Everyone was supplied paint, paper dishes to use as palettes, water, and plastic aprons.

As soon as you walked in, you could see the drinks and food provided. Of course, if you were not eating, masks had to be up for Covid protection. When the event started, there were some horrific mic problems, screeching with every word that tried to be said. There was also some confusion about the canvases provided. Some wondered if we had to paint a starry night Long Hall, but it was not mandatory. A girl attending the event painted sunflowers with a beautiful ombre blue sky instead.

Before all the painting started, the homecoming court was announced. Out of all the lovely and handsome contestants, the final decision was: Homecoming King: Bayly Williams and Homecoming Queen: Kiannah Titus. Congratulations!

As soon as the announcements finished, the painting began and continued for two and a half hours. After the second hour, people started to leave. If you intend to attend one in the future, you will need dedication and patience in case it is long. In the end, though, everyone’s paintings became a beautiful piece with their interpretation of the original image. Smiles were present as the participants left the tent, and even chatter was heard about how relieved they felt even if the session was very long. To relieve some of the boredom of waiting for the paint to dry, the staff held a small raffle. So next time there is a painting and design event, it is worth going to. Everyone helping in the event tries their best to keep you entertained and helps when you struggle with the painting. I hope to see some more painting events being held and even more people signing up!
