Over Homecoming Weekend 2019, the Lycoming College Theater Department held a production of the play Dancing at Lughnasa.

The show about a boy named Michael (played by Nicholas Auletti) and his aunts (Tara Wands, Kiera Vinson, Esmeralda Cabrera, Abigayle Geevy, and Caleia Hagwood) who he lives with, which is told from a very memoir-like point of view. We get a view inside Michael’s head as we go back to summer during his childhood. Seeing the mildly dysfunctional family dynamic between the sisters and father Jack (Cason Morgan) was heartwarming and dramatic with well-placed hints of comedic relief.

The arrival of Michael’s absentee father, Gerry (Stephon Folk) was another obstacle for the sisters to have to deal with but helped exhibit the relationship between the sisters and some of their personality traits. Lighting choices also helped the tone and ambiance of the whole show, and the costumes were very well done.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the show and a special shout out to Tara Wands and Kierra Vinson for their Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship nominations!
