Homecoming is always a special time for the campus community, and Lyco Hoco 2019 was no different. This year marked the first addition of some new homecoming court spots for the student body, as well as the annual return of time-honored events, as well as the inclusion of Family Weekend fun.
As is tradition, halfway through the week, the finalists in the running for Homecoming King and Queen were announced, along with the Prince and Princess. At Wednesday’s Hall Crawl, the Student Senate of Lycoming College also announced the first-ever Duke and Duchess and Mr. and Ms. First Year.
This year, Senate introduced new positions of Homecoming court royalty. In addition to the senior class positions of King and Queen and the junior class positions of Prince and Princess, the sophomore class can now be recognized with the titles of Duke and Duchess. The first-year class is represented with the titles of Mr. and Ms. First Year. In traditional fashion, the Homecoming King and Queen were announced at the football game on Saturday.
Homecoming week consisted of some recent Lycoming favorites, including a night of inflatable fun on the Fultz Quad and another year of Lyco’s Got Talent. These events, along with others, took place throughout the week of homecoming and were yet another chance for the student body to connect and enjoy themselves with some good old fashioned Lycoming fun. Other events included the alumni Beer and Pretzel Tent, various music department concerts and performances and, of course, the football game (complete with our special “canine kickoff,” courtesy of Dr. Darby Lewes and her furry companions!).
The conclusion of Homecoming Weekend also saw the conclusion and celebration of the Campaign for a Greater Lycoming. This campaign launched in October of 2016 with the goal of raising $65 million for the campus. Ultimately, the campaign support (from alumni and friends and family of the college) totaled $79, 231, 844. Amidst all the fun and festivities, this feat was also highlighted and celebrated as yet another mark of Warrior pride!
Homecoming once again was a time to remember, full of alumni reminiscing, student celebrating and general Lycoming campus spirit.
