Sexual Assault Prevention Week: Walk-A-Mile in Her Shoes

The Interfraternity Council has hosted Lycoming College’s very own march in honor of the men’s international “Walk-A-Mile in Her Shoes” event. This event was held on Wednesday, April 6th from 4:30pm to 5:30pm, starting at Pennington Lounge in the Academic Center, and circling the perimeter of the school.

This march was established to help raise awareness of the causes, effects, and remediations to men’s sexualized violence. Men’s sexualized violence has been defined as “any act of physical or psychological violence targeting sexuality or gender and used to undermine a person’s sexual or gender identity”. Lycoming College is committed to help stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence, and in doing so, the men who have joined the march quite literally placed themselves in high heels for the march.

This event began with a short speech of appreciation from President Trachte for being a part of this event as a witness. A Lycoming alumna has also been invited and she spoke on statistics about instances of sexual assault on college campuses, regardless of gender. After generous words of support and appreciation, the men of several fraternities have set off to march with banners
