Studies have shown that time in nature and around plants benefits mental health. For college students, especially during the winter when it’s hard to get outside, nature can still be used, with the benefits of keeping plants cited by many sources. Lycoming Environmental Awareness Foundation (L.E.A.F) hoped to help fellow students and increase awareness for environmental health through a plant sale.
Thursday, February 16, from 3:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Pennington Lounge, the LEAF members sold various plants with options that ranged from Christmas cacti and other succulents to aloe vera and mother of thousands as well as shirts designed by one of their members. Many students stopped by, most leaving with new friends in their rooms (and a nice shirt), and others came to take in the greenery and leisurely chat.
The plants sold were grown from Lycoming’s greenhouse on campus to gain even greater diversity. L.E.A.F hopes for more diversity in available plants to sell, so please keep looking for another possible plant sale!
LEAF Club will be sponsoring various events in the upcoming semester, including a hike to Angel Falls and potentially a cleanup during Earth Week. For anyone interested in joining the club, meetings are every other Tuesday at 8:00 in AC 204 or feel free to reach out to Sarah (the secretary) @lansara1@lycoming.edu.
