The Honest Company Guest Speaker
Staff Writer: Claudia Rispoli
On October 7th the executive vice president of the Honest Company, Glenn Klages, spoke to many students within the Business Administration major here at Lycoming College. First, he gave us some insight on his own life. He successfully sold two companies, had an enriching network, and worked in many positions within many different companies. He gave very useful advice, not just about buying Christmas presents now, but to take every opportunity possible. Doing so gave him friends from around the world, job opportunities one could usually never image, and knowledge that can not be gained in a classroom. He stressed the fact that being an introvert would get no where and that, as a person, being as open minded as possible was the best thing you could do for yourself in accounting, marketing, and finance.
He went on to tell us about the Honest Company run by Jessica Alba in the beginning of the year. With products available from Amazon and their own cite, their mission is to keep people from trying to choose what helps you versus what works for you. They have baby products (mostly diapers), beauty products, and cleaning products. Even though the company has many branches in different directions, Mr. Klages has warned those who wish to pursue entrepreneurship that having their business only manage one specialty is counting for doom, on the other hand being versed in too many areas can doom their company as well. Wise words from a man with many years of experience and all this wisdom will hopefully guide, not only those who attended, but you as well.
