With recruitment being this past week (1/31/22-1/5/22), we would love to spotlight the different sororities on campus. We would also like to congratulate the 10 girls who found their homes and to all the chapter who got new members.
First off, we have Alpha Rho Omega who was founded 41 years ago in 1981 right here on Lycoming College. They hold the values of unity, loyalty, individuality, and respect very close to their hearts. Their colors are red, gold, and purple. Their philanthropy focus is the Young Women’s Christian Association. Alpha Rho fundraises and writes cards of encouragement for YWCA. Their new member dues are $150 and sister dues are $200. These numbers vary based on the number of sisters. Dues are not expected to be paid off right away, they have payment plans and other assistances. Alpha Rho is fortunate to have a house located on campus at 635 Mulberry St. (Right next to commons). They are a small organization that tries to keep everyone comfortable and safe in their sisterhood. If you have any questions, you can DM them on Instagram @ alpharhoomega
Alpha Xi Delta is a National Sorority that has deep connections with sisterhood, leadership, knowledge, and service. The organization was founded in 1893, one of the first women's fraternities created, and they became a chapter on Lycoming College's campus in 2005. Their colors are double blue and gold. Their current philanthropic focus is the Kindly Hearts Campaign which is a year-long campaign to help their local community with the impact of COVID-19. In Alpha Xi Delta, sisters engage in many communities, collegiate, and even nation-wide events and conventions that further develop personal and professional skills and strengthen their bond as a sisterhood. They pride themselves in academic success, strong friendships, and drive to give back to the community. In Alpha Xi Delta, sisters have the unique opportunity to become the best versions of themselves while being supported and loved by volunteers and staff, alumna, mentors, advisors, and friends in the process. They are looking forward to the semester ahead and hope to accomplish and contribute to the legacy of the Iota Mu chapter of Alpha Xi Delta at Lycoming College! Beta Phi Gamma is a local sorority on campus founded on October 13th, 1976. Their values are loyalty, trust, honesty, respect, and family, while their colors are blue, white, and violet. The philanthropy that they support is the American Cancer Society in which they hold an annual Relay for Life event every year. They have sisters from different states and countries who are involved in school organizations, academic clubs, athletic teams, and have jobs on-campus and off-campus. They enjoy having sisters with different backgrounds to help them learn about each other and grow. For more information you can DM them on Instagram @betaphigamma
Gamma Delta Sigma is an organization comprised of “authentic, powerful, dynamic, and compassionate leaders.” Their colors are green, yellow, and dark blue, and they have a mascot who is the Delty Duck, and their flower is the daisy to symbolize ongoing growth within our house. As a local sorority, they value their two philanthropies and their ability to give back to the community. The Brandy Lee Sudol auction, their local philanthropy, is a fundraiser they conduct every fall with a “Chinese auction” where half the funds raised is presented to an incoming woman on the biology/pre-med track in the form of a scholarship. Free the Girls, their national philanthropy, is a non-profit that collects new and gently used bras to give to victims of sex trafficking around the world as an entrepreneurial way for them to start over after the trauma they experienced. In the fall 2022, they will be commemorating 45 years of sisterhood, and are excited to celebrate with some of their founders and alumni at Homecoming!
