Fayla Guerin
“My name is Fayla Guerin, and I am a member of the class of 2022. My major is Corporate Communications with a minor in Film and Visual Arts. I am from Baltimore, Maryland.”
“I am running for this position because I can see change in Lycoming's future. I am going to show that any person can hold a position and do well on this campus. I can bring new ideas to students and rebuild the family of Lycoming College.”
“My involvement with Student Senate since my freshman second semester [has prepared me]. I know what the role takes, and I have possessed many different leadership skills throughout my Lycoming time that has prepared me for this position. Evolving and becoming something new is what I want to see, and I believe that can happen in the next Lycoming senate with me as president.
“The next Senate year I am pushing for more inclusion, diversity and a unified community. I want to see more students interacting with each other even if they are not in the same class or organization. I want to see the freshmen come into a new and changed Lycoming. I am developing a way for freshmen to have new experiences and create new memories because COVID-19 impacts their lives before coming to Lycoming.” As for the incoming Freshmen, Fayla mentioned that she wanted to update the welcome kits with essential school items and a list of the clubs and organizations on campus.
“Students need to know that I'm here for you, I will be your backbone, I will advocate for you and I will listen to you. If I get elected to this position that doesn't mean I'm going to lose your voice. Your voice and my voice are equally the same. I am here to be the liaison between students and administration. I want you to know that transparency, connection, responsibility, respect and community are words that will follow me through my campaign. I'm looking for students to look at me and say she's going to make our voice heard. We are looking towards the future; we remember the past and living in the present. The future is bright, the future is near, and the future is Fayla, and I am running for Student Senate President.”
Maverick L. Jones
“My name is Maverick Jones. I am from Washington, DC and a part of the Class of 2022. Currently I am majoring in Political Science and minoring in Spanish.”
“I want to be Student Senate President because I love to advocate & serve, it is what drives me. I suspect that when running for a position such as President that one would think of the benefits, but my focus is solely on the students. Making quality of life better on campus for myself and my fellow students is my top priority.”
“Out of all the candidates, I have the most experience with clubs and organizations on campus. My current positions are, a member of the Student Senate, the President of the Lycoming Environmental Awareness Foundation, Vice-President of the Black Student Union, Silver Screen for the Campus Activities Board and Housing Manager for the Creative Arts Society. My past positions include being Chairwoman of the Residential Life Committee, and Chairwoman of the Food Committee. I have made it my mission to be the person that people can look to voice their issues, the people are my purpose. I am a woman of the people.”
“As President, I want to change the way people interact with one another on campus. I want to host more socials and in person gatherings to reinstate a sense of camaraderie so that when the pandemic ends, we know how to interact like old times.”
“I want the students to look at not the actions of the candidates within the last few weeks but their actions throughout their college careers; hold them accountable and ask them, how have their actions in the past added value to this campus?”
Quincy Blair
“My name is Quincy Blair I major in Psychology, undeclared minor, a part of the educational program looking for my certification in teaching pre-K-4. Raised in Harlem, New York and I am 18 years old freshman/first-year scholar.”
“I want to be student Senate President because as a freshman I am going to be here for awhile and in my time being here I want to give back to my community by providing the best experience here at Lyco. From stories told to me by mainly Seniors and Juniors Lyco was once a bright, spirit filled campus and I want to bring it back to what it once was or even better coming out of COVID-19. Being Senate President also helps me practice and develop my political aspirations in my future endeavors of wanting to become Mayor of NYC.”
“I am qualified for this position because I am a head worker, resilient, engaged, and willing to make sure campus is a great experience for everyone. I have also held leadership positions in High School and feel as I can bring the same success I had here.”
“As President I want to change the sigma around certain groups and change the way we interact with one another. We are a campus of Warriors and as a team we are stronger than ever, but divide can fall into squabbles with one another over misconceptions and personal biases. I want to change the relationship we have with administration and getting them to open up more towards being open with the student body. I want to improve on campus life now that we are slowly coming from under Covid’s wing.”
“I want students to know that even though I am a freshman/ first year student on campus I am more than my year. I am hunger and motivated to earn my spot at the table and keep my spot. I am always willing to fight for those who fight alongside with me and are ready to help put the effort into creating a greater community. I am an ally to all and hopefully a new guide of hope.”
