This past Thursday I had the opportunity to attend BSU’s Talent Thursday: Poetry Slam event. The event started off with the audience giving us a good vibe as they snapped their fingers to show support for those who were courageous to go up and show their talent. The participants demonstrated lots of talents from poems to singing. After each performance, the aura of the event went from smooth to dynamic and ended with a heartfelt original song.
To start off the event, a relaxing and heartwarming feeling pulsed through the room as those who attended were ready for the event to begin. Heartfelt and powerful poems started the special night as they brought with them a special aspect. The poems gave a dark and saddened tone that inspired and gave motivation to both the audience and the author. People in the audience cried while others agreed with the strong message embedded in sweet honey-like words. Next came a series of musicians who enhanced the atmosphere with their own form of poetry inside their lyrics and musical scores. To end the event a guitarist and a singer brought a sense of sereneness to those who attended.
I have to say that overall BSU provided such a relaxing and compassionate event for Black History Month, providing the time to express their emotions through literature and music. Seeing many people show their talents and their creativity brought joy to the audience as they snapped to the poetry and nodded their heads to the music.
