Band Concert
Saturday, March 4th, at 7:30, The Lycoming College Music Department held a concert to showcase Lycoming’s Concert Band. The show was held in Lycoming’s new Trachte Music Center in McIver Hall. Conductor William S. Ciabattari shared his excitement at performing in the new facility and the inspiration that has come from the space. The program began with a performance of “Commemoration,” which Ciabattari described as “A little bit of a monster” for its complexity, but expressed his pleasure at the student’s work in performing such a challenging piece. This was followed by “Third Suite,” consisting of a march, waltz, and rondo section, each uniquely juxtaposing the traditional styles. Lycoming’s Band is known for performing pieces by John Philip Sousa, with this concert’s p being “Nobles of the Mystic Shrine.” Other works included “Anthems for Winds and Percussion,” the slower “Rest,” and a finale of “English Folk Song Suite.” A reception in the atrium followed the performance, where musicians met with faculty, fellow students, and community members to celebrate their work. This experience highlighted musical talent at Lycoming and provided a great community experience. Other music events for the semester include Lycoming’s Orchestra on March 5th, the Tour Choir Send-off Concert on March 8th, Kaitlyn Kratzer’s Senior Recital on March 19th, and the Lycoming College Music Gala on March 16th.
